What are we building toward? Do the decisions we make today align with our goals?

It’s very easy to lose sight of the goal when you’re deep in the fog of daily operations — and suddenly we can take steps that feel like progress but are actually moving us in a completely different direction than we intended.

This week I had the honor of speaking for the second time at Halcyon LAC — a program for Latin American ClimateTech entrepreneurs — giving my “Building Towards” talk.

I love meeting people with fire 🔥 and there’s no shortage of it here — fire to do things, to change the world with solutions that literally make the planet a better place.

My special admiration for those in DeepTech — creating entirely new physical technologies. Portable genetic sequencers, new materials, biodegradable pigments. Building software is one thing (and much easier today with Claude Code). Inventing new chemical and physical mechanisms is something else entirely. Incredible.

Yesterday was the closing cocktail with 2-minute flash pitches. I admire everyone — but here are my favorites worth checking out:

Julieta Imperiale — portable genetic sequencer for agriculture.

Vasily Korshikov — construction materials from bio-waste.

Estefanía Abello Plata, CFA — software for recycling supply chain.

Thaís Guerra — increasing recycling rates through consumer engagement.

M. Emilia Cardoso Martinez — biodegradable clothing pigments at price parity.

Paula Aponte — remote, real-time technical assistance for agriculture.

Mala Henriques, thank you thank you for letting me contribute to such a spectacular program.
