Today I ran into Álvaro Bohórquez completely by chance — and we ended up deep in conversation about the path of being dads while building businesses and, in his words, “grinding.”
Turns out we’re both dads of twins. Both building careers in tech and entrepreneurship. Both in long-term relationships (Álvaro’s been with his wife for over 25 years, I’ve been with mine for 15).
I think Álvaro is literally “who I want to be when I grow up.”
Keep my marriage strong over the years. Raise my kids well (his twins already graduated from university!) And at the same time crush it in my projects, create impact and legacy, and be recognized for it.
He told me about a guy with 5 kids (and one more on the way!!). And he’s making it work 🤯. And Álvaro already made it work.
He looks at the guy with 6 kids and says “if that guy can do it, why not me?” I look at Álvaro and say “If Álvaro did it, why not me?”
For the first time in my life I’m feeling like money might not be enough — the private school bills are coming. Anxiety hitting. And damn, that’s a double hit when you have twins.
And then there’s the daily time. Being a good husband, son, friend.
But it’s doable. It’s going to happen. For anyone else on this path — you’re not alone. I feel it today. But Álvaro shows me it can be done. Others have done it.
Powerful chance encounters. I’m walking away with so much more perspective.
One day at a time. In the fight — but optimistic. We’re going to make it.
