Connect and Converse: The Thursday Ritual That Fuels My Best Ideas

Connect and converse — a BASIC part of professional growth, but one we sometimes forget. It gets lost in the cracks.

My solution: block time for it. Every Thursday, no matter what, I meet new, interesting, vibrant people 🤩

Yesterday I had deep conversations with a mom who connects families with schools (María Alejandra F.), an entrepreneur in energy (Ricardo Forero Gómez), a passionate data community builder (Maria Alejandra Restrepo, CDMP), an organizational culture innovator and consultant (Roberto Bolullo Caramés — p.s. thanks for gifting me Alinna!!), a business structuring expert (Diana Hincapie), and a duo of tech and product dreamers (David Lancheros and Natalia Castro Montaña).

Then, to cap it off — a creativity workshop with the brilliant Santiago Amador 🔥

Every week: new people, new ideas. From that raw material, new neural connections. More creativity. More growth.

And then one day, in the shower, a new idea 💡. Immediate, unexpected — but impossible without that weekly stimulus.

Sahil Bloom calls it “Consumption” time. Setting aside time to consume podcasts, books, talks… I’d add: setting aside time to actually talk to new, interesting people.

8 hours a week learning about new topics, having conversations far from my usual world. Letting other people’s perspectives enrich my own.

I highly recommend it — whether it’s our Thursday coworking sessions, a couple hours at home each week, or a book club. Whatever works — make time to connect, converse, and learn.

I promise you’ll get more ideas in the shower, in your dreams, on the way to work.

How do you make time to gain new perspectives and learn? Any events, podcasts, or rituals you recommend?

P.S. Dropping a photo of my favorite slide from Santi’s workshop. Between Doing Nothing and Deciding to Do Something, there’s only an imaginary line… and a tiny leap.
