Difficult Conversations: Do We Actually Know How to Have Them?

Difficult conversations. Do we know how to have them? Today I realized I have no clue.

This morning talking with Maria Echeverri Gomez, she was telling me what a truly difficult conversation looks like.

Letting someone go. We’ve all been there.

Telling an investor the business is done. Some of us have.

Telling a mother the medical team made an irreversible mistake with her daughter. Me? Never anything at that level. (P.S. my deepest admiration to the doctors who do this with love every single day.)

The perspective shifts completely when you step outside your bubble. What IS a truly difficult conversation? How do you approach it?

I don’t have answers — Maria just left me thinking. I don’t think I’ve ever had a TRULY difficult conversation — and I have no idea how to handle one.
