Colombia’s EdTech ecosystem is at an inflection point 📈 Why?

  1. Community Consolidation ➡️ Colombia EdTech recently held its first assembly. 50+ companies discussing shared challenges in applying technology to education. The new leadership of Andrés Méndez strongly echoes the early takeoff of Colombia Fintech under Edwin Zácipa 🚀 and Erick Rincon Cardenas, or Colombia Proptech with Shirlhey Sanchez.

  2. Mature Players ➡️ Companies like Scala Learning, Coschool, UBITS, and Platzi prove it’s possible to build the market and sustain an organization long-term. Behind them comes the “second wave” that will give even more relevance to the vertical.

  3. Advantages in Capital Scarcity ➡️ Education is challenging because of its difficult scalability, so many models (even tech-enabled ones) look more like Camels 🐫 (steady but not explosive growth) and Zebras 🦓 (profit-impact balance) than Unicorns 🦄. In a VC capital scarcity scenario, these more measured growth models have the advantage.

The wave is coming 🌊 — across tech-services (Edupleia, Acreditta), tech-program-delivery (LaTeacher, ADA School), tech-enabled-programs (Arukay, Ignia), and more.
