Yesterday was Bogotá’s first Community Builders Meetup 🤩
A meta-community — a community of community creators.
An idea born out of nowhere, from a quick chat with Tim Bonnemann and Adriana Portilla Llaña.
And a LinkedIn post that went viral — 100+ sign-ups, and despite the DOWNPOUR yesterday, over 50 attendees.
It was awesome to see how it all unfolded. We had 3 five-minute talks planned, but it turned into an Open Mic about the art of bringing people together:
- Luis Betancourt on the community lifecycle.
- Me showing how to use tech to manage an in-person community.
- Tim Bonnemann sharing his 20 years as a Community Architect.
🪄 And the magic of organic — without any planning, several people stood up to share:
- Rogert Ovalle, the first brave soul, sharing how he’s seen many communities be born and die.
- Carolina Laiton Galán on the inverted funnel in communities.
- Santiago Grisales on where things go sideways 💩 when managing a community.
- Valeria Soler on connecting with our purpose.
So many new connections. Meeting faces that only existed virtually. Incredible.
We agreed to do it again in 2 months, in March. We’ll let you know.
What tools, frameworks, or experiences do you have with building communities? How do you picture a future gathering? I really want to do an Unconference. Who’s in?
