Juan Manuel Santos Arango, a wishful policy question — how hard would it be to switch Colombia’s voting mechanism from simple plurality to ranked-choice voting?

It’s been proven that ranked-choice voting is superior in every way — it ends up producing a candidate who better represents the majority, pulls less toward the extremes, and creates more diversity in bodies like the Senate.

But we’re still stuck in caveman mode with “whoever gets the most votes wins.” With ranked-choice voting, it’s not just about being the favorite of many — it also matters that you’re not the most hated by others. That’s how you get more moderation and less polarization.

How hard would it be to actually make that change?
